The village is located on the mountain side facing Lefkosa and just 15 minutes from both Girne and Lefkosa. Set between the Besparmak and Troodos mountains, the area has historical links going back to the first King of Cyprus.

The King's built a palace for his daughter, Princess X, in the mountain side caves and the walls are still visible. It was said that the remoteness of the area was chosen to prevent her becoming too friendly with his subjects!

Beneath the cave palace, the King built a swimming pool for his daughter, secluded from the prying eyes of her many suitors.
